Limited tickets on sale for my 6/14 show!

Plus, a new video release, and some more muisic.

Hey friends. I hope everyone’s summer is starting out well, and lots of love and support to those of you surviving through the end of a school year :)

Sending out another update because my big show on the 14th is fast approaching, and I’m hoping folks who are interested will buy some presales!! But there’s other fun stuff in here too. Read on, and feel free to email me back if you have questions or just want to say hi!

tl;dr: I’m playing a double-bill with my biggest jazz violin inspiration and mentor on June 14, and would be so pumped if you joined us. I’ll also be doing some ambient improvised stuff on the 17th. And if you were wondering what I’m up to in the video world…

SHOWS COMING UP

JUST OVER A WEEK TIL MY NEW GROUP DEBUT ———

On Friday, June 14th, I’ll be bringing a band — playing my own music, for the first time in years — to perform on a bill with my jazz violin mentor and probably my greatest inspiration on the instrument, Zach Brock.

(Some folks might know him from his longtime role in jazz-crossover supergroup Snarky Puppy.) Zach will be playing alongside Snarky Puppy bandmates Keita Ogawa and Bob Lanzetti, as part of their new trio project (listen here).

The hit will take place at a super dope little art gallery on uptown 14th St NW (near my apartment!) called Treehouse. It’s being presented by my friends and colleagues Ed Baldi and Nick Moreland of The Sonic Lifeline, an awesome new presenting outfit doing the kind of DIY presenting projects that were my bread and butter when I was running CapitalBop.

Seated tickets are $30 and there’s an even more limited number of $10 tickets to stand in the back/by the bar. If you want to come out, I really appreciate the support and will be so pumped to see you!

THIS JUST IN: INTERPLANETARY VIBES AT COOL HOUSE ———

On Monday June 17th, I’m part of a bill at Rhizome DC that doubles as a benefit for the Rhizome building fund. (Because in case you hadn’t heard… Rhizome is getting a new home! That they own!!!!)

My group, an ambient-abstract-improvised-electroacoustic-ritual-avant duo with my brother in music Abe Mamet, is a really fun thing to get back to. And Zach Dixon is bringing a group of some of my favorite musicians of my generation in DC. Zach is legitimately wonderful to witness make music, and he brings personality and narrative to the music that can make it more approachable for people who “don’t like jazz.” :)

OTHER UPDATES

MY BIGGEST LIVE TAPING SO FAR ———

Recently I’ve had the privilege of working with Brandon Woody, an incredible trumpeter from Baltimore who is in the process of blasting off to the top of the modern jazz world, to create moving pictures that portray his original music. Below is a release from a live taping I directed/DP’d at Reginald Lewis Museum in Baltimore. It’s so dope. Check it out.

LOOK MA, I’M ON THE RADIO! STILL! ———

I continue to have the incredible privilege of hosting the show “Jazz Stories” on WPFW 89.3 FM every Thursday from 3 to 5 pm, playing tracks I love and having conversations with musicians from my city. Tune in sometime, on air or online. 🙂

GETTING THINGS OUT THERE ———

This newsletter is the beginning of an effort on my part to communicate more effectively with my community about my creative work. The goal is to have a website up within the month, and to populate that damn Instagram page I’ve had up for two years with no content.

So, stay tuned for more samples of my work. Have some live music filming work coming out soon that I am EXTREMELY excited to share. If you want to check out some stuff I’ve done more recently, maybe start with Steve Arnold’s EP “The Prayer,” which I recorded, mixed, filmed and edited in its entirety.
